Local Broadcast Television Stations Keep Boston Informed

Throughout the terror and tragedy, Boston stayed informed with their Local Broadcast Television Stations.

First and foremost, in the immediate aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing, the city of Boston came together in a demonstration of community support, caring and pride that Boston is known for. Throughout the week there was a critical need for accurate and timely information and we are extremely proud that local television broadcasters in the market were able to serve the community with wall-to-wall news that kept the citizens of Boston factually informed and safe.

On Monday, 4/15/13 at 3pm, coverage began on the bombings at the Boston Marathon. HUT levels rose as high
as 40% from the same time period a year ago:

On Friday, 4/19/13, the hunt was on for one of the suspects, and Boston was glued to their television screens.

On both days, Bostonians flocked to the television for the latest news. And the overwhelming decision was to go to the local broadcast stations.

Broadcast stations WCVB, WBZ, WHDH & WFXT ran continuous coverage from 3P to Midnight.
Cable = CNN, CNBC, FXNC, HLN & MSNBC

In the same time period, broadcast was up +77% from the previous Monday and +80% from the same Monday a year ago (HH), while among A25-54, broadcast was up +109% from the previous week and +132% from the previous year.

The same held true for Friday, as Boston was glued to the screen until suspect #2 was finally captured, and coverage began to wind down at 11P.

In the same time period, broadcast was up +218% from the previous Friday and +264% from the same Friday a year ago (HH), while among A25-54, broadcast was up +410% from the previous week and +548% from the previous year.

A difficult week for Boston, but the local Boston stations were right there keeping them up-to-date with the latest information. Newscast deliveries were up significantly for all stations:
