TV Basics: Digital Video Recorders (DVRs)
While Nielsen estimates national DVR penetration at 28.9% as of February 2009, there are wide differences on a market-by-market basis. DVR penetration is over 35% in six DMAs as noted below. Primetime programs are among the most time-shifted; in 2008, the top five time-shifted primetime programs were Heroes, Fringe, Lost, Bones and Grey’s Anatomy.
