TV Basics: Channels – Receivable vs. Tuned
As the number of channels available to a TV household increases, as it has in recent years, what is the effect on the number of channels actually tuned? According to Nielsen’s Television Audience Report, the average home receives a total of 130 channels. It appears that after reaching the 50-channel level, additional channels produce no significant increase in the number of tuned channels. Even with 50+ channels available, households view an average of 17.8 channels. |
