TVB’s Latest Research of Louisiana Voters Shows Broadcast TV is Number One for Trust

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Monday, March 25, 2019 –TVB, the not-for-profit trade association of America’s local broadcast TV industry, announced new research on Louisiana voters as part of its ongoing voter media usage study. The survey demonstrated that Louisiana voters continue to trust, and respond to, local broadcast TV. The survey was conducted by Dynata (formerly Research Now SSI), a global expert in online market research data.

“Over 80 percent of Louisiana voters agree that you can trust local broadcast TV,” says TVB President and CEO Steve Lanzano. “National trends show that voters trust and turn to local broadcast TV, and this holds up state-by-state. Louisiana residents trust local broadcast TV and are more likely to share news they’ve heard through this medium than any other. These responses reinforce local broadcast TV’s power to reach and influence voters.”

This latest research finds that:

  1. TV Reaches More Voters:
    • Television reaches the majority, 87 percent, of Louisiana voters, including 90 percent of Republicans, 88 percent of Democrats and 83 percent of Independents.
  2. Voters Trust Local Broadcast News:
    • 81 percent of Louisiana voters trust the news they hear on local broadcast TV, including 78 percent of Republicans, 87 percent of Democrats and 80 percent of Independents.
  3. Voters Recognize Local Broadcast TV’s Veracity:
    • Only seven percent of Louisiana voters find fake news to be most prevalent on local broadcast news, as opposed to 54 percent who cited social media.

“It’s clear that Louisiana voters respond to local broadcast TV, regardless of political affiliation,” continued Lanzano. “We’re excited to see how this trust and effect continues to play out in Louisiana’s 2019 elections.”

This latest research was conducted from January 14 to January 27 via an opt-in survey of 1,000 Louisiana respondents. To qualify, respondents needed to be a registered voter and to have been exposed to any of over 20 media yesterday, either traditional or digital.
