The top employers in Lake Charles are Calcasieu Parish School System and L Auberge Casino Resort, which is the biggest casino market in the state of Louisiana. There are several petrochemical plants and an oil refinery are located nearby along the Calcasieu Ship Channel. The Trunkline LNG terminal, immediately southwest of Lake Charles, is one of the United States few liquefied natural gas terminals. Lake Charles also serves as the shopping and retail hub of the five-parish area, with places such as the Prien Lake Mall, the Lake Charles Power Center, and the Cottage Shop District. There is also Mardi Gras in Lake Charles that regularly draws in crowds of 150,000 annually.
